God’s Amazing Work of Grace in 2015!

As we approach the end of 2015 it’s a time to reflect on all that the Lord has done! A time to remember all we have to be thankful for.

I’d like to share some of the highlights from this past year.

One of the favorite things I’ve been able to do over the past four years is partner with Lo Mejor del Trigo to start a new church. This March we were able to come alongside our friends led by Pastor Daniel Nuñez to help start church number 24 for LMT. Pastor Victor Bravo is leading this church in Rosarito, Mexico – Plan Libertador. I recently had the opportunity to interview Victor and his wife, Sol and upload it on YouTube. You can view the video below.

Praying for Peace in La Paz

In May Pastor Victor Gonzalez moved to La Paz, Baja California Sur with his wife, Fanny and their daughter Xaris to start a new church planting project. This is a huge win for us as it took a lot of effort to get this project started. This will be the first Presbyterian church with the National Presbyterian Church of Mexico in this city of 250,000. We are praying for many to come to know the Prince of Peace in La Paz.

Keys to a Transformed Life!

This summer a number of pastors, leaders and missionaries went through a workshop on Keys to a Transformed Life with us in San Antonio de Las Minas near Ensenada. The Lord broke through in their lives and brought healing and renewal as we dealt with root issues. As the Lord heals us, we become more effective in leading others towards wholeness in Christ.

VBS fun!

Summer VBS Fun

Another highlight during the summer was having a group from Skyview Presbyterian Church come to work with the Nueva Jerusalen church in Ensenada. This was the second year in a row that the church has come to help with VBS. As a result of a return visit we saw relationships deepened, and the ministry of the church strengthened. Hallelujah!

God’s Healing Through Medical Missions

God also gave us the opportunity to lead two medical missions outreaches in Ensenada. The medical clinic attracted more people than any outreach Dawn and I have ever been apart of. It was exciting to have such loving and caring doctors and staff treating the patients. The medical attention opened the door for us to pray with each patient and see a number of them put their faith in Christ.

Assessment & Coaching for Church Planters and Leaders
Our group of assessors and church planting candidates

Our group of assessors and church planting candidates

This Fall we held two major events for church planting in Tijuana and Baja California. In November 11 church planting candidate couples went through an assessment center. The need for workers, for church planters remains great, so it was a huge win for us to be able to successfully hold our first assessment center.

Then to finish the year off in December we held our first Gospel Coach training. The Lord gave us a good group of pastors, leaders and missionaries. It was an important first step as we work towards developing a coaching network to support all the pastors, leaders and church planters we are working with.

So Much to be Thankful For!

These are the highlights. There are too many wonderful things that the Lord did to mention them all. It’s so good to think back on God’s outstanding work. The church is advancing! It’s a reminder that we are more than conquerors in Christ!

Dave & Dawn

Dave & Dawn

Dawn and I are cognizant of the fact that we couldn’t be involved in these activities, and we wouldn’t have success if we didn’t have a wonderful group of friends and ministry partners surrounding us! We give thanks for you. Your prayers and your encouragement are vital to the advance of the gospel on the Border, the Baja and Beyond!

We can’t wait to see what the Lord will do in 2016! Hallelujah!

Help Us End the Year Strong

Join us in prayer so that we will end the year strong financially so that we’re able to capitalize on the exciting opportunities in front of us in 2016!

Jesus Brings Us Joy!

Nativity_tree2011“‘Tis the season to be jolly,” as the Welsh and English Christmas melody goes. I concur with the sentiment of joy during this time of year. Yes, there are some negative elements, but I love that many focus on the first advent of Christ. I enjoy the extra time with my family, and gathering for celebrations with close friends.

It is a special time of the year!

When I reflect on the festivities of the last few days. The times to feast, and give thanks for all the Lord has done. The opportunities to celebrate with the ones we love. I wish we would celebrate what God is doing and has done more often. Wouldn’t it be great to give thanks to our colleagues, friends, partners in ministry on a regular basis.

O Lord, that it will be so.

Joy to the World

“Joy to the world, the Lord is come!

Let earth receive her King;

Let every heart prepare Him room,

And Heaven and nature sing,

And Heaven and nature sing,

And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.

(The words and lyrics of the old Christmas carol ‘Joy to the Word’ were written in 1719 by Isaac Watts, 1674-1748.)

Jesus Paid it All

Friends I hope that you will take advantage of the season, and experience the joy of the Savior with your family and your friends. Even if you find yourself in a difficult situation, remember Christ paid the price for your sins. All your debts have been paid on the cross.

“And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭2:13-14‬ ‭ESV‬‬

The Light on a Hill

Dave with Victor and Sol Bravo in front of their church

The light of Christ shines brightly in the community of Rosarito, Plan Libertador through our new church plant! We rejoice in what the Lord is doing there.

Last week I had the opportunity to interview some of our favorite people south of the border, pastor Victor Bravo and Sol. Every time I’m with them I come away encouraged. God is using them to see lives transformed. Wonderful stories of grace are taking place in this church that is light on a hill.

I think you will enjoy watching this video and learning more about Victor and Sol and the outreach in Rosarito, Plan Libertador.

Lives Transformed by the Gospel

In the video Victor and Sol share about one of the families that have been transformed by the gospel. Here’s a few more details about how God worked in their lives, and brought hope where there was little.

Marco lives near the church with his wife, Martha. Initially when they were invited they weren’t interested in the church. When we started building the church they saw all the activity going on. It peaked their interest, and one of our team members invited them to help.

Before we knew it Marco started hammering nails!

The following Sunday Marco and Martha showed up along with their three children. Marco used to have a problem with drinking, but since he got involved in the church he’s been able to have victory in this area of his life. The gospel not only saved him, it changed his life!

Not only was Marco’s life transformed, but the course of his family was changed forever. His 19-year-old daughter, Beatrice was pregnant out-of-wedlock. Beatrice and her boyfriend, Hector were gripped by the gospel. After they came to Christ they got married, and were baptized along with the rest of the family. What a great day of celebration!

When Dawn heard this family’s story tears came to hear eyes. She was touched by God’s redeeming love. We hope that the Lord will minister to you in a similar way.

Thank you for your loving prayers and your support!

Help us end 2015 strong.

You Prayed, God Answered!
Coaching Training

Coaching Training

We asked you to pray for our coaching training that we held for pastors and leaders last week. God came through again! The Lord gave us a wonderful time with the pastors, leaders and missionaries that attended.

This is an important step as Dawn and I work with our partners to see church planting movements that are undergirded with a strong coaching component. A number of the pastors and leaders feel alone. They feel like they don’t have anyone to turn to when they have a problem.

One of the things that Dawn and I enjoy the most is connecting and coming alongside the leaders here on the border. But not long after we arrived I realized that we couldn’t keep up with all the pastors that are in the networks we are working with.

Multiply Coaches

Fellow missionary, Gary Watanabe has been one of the men I’ve turned to for coaching advice. When I explained how many pastors we were working with, he said you are going to have to multiply coaches. That set us on a journey towards putting together training for pastors and leaders here, so they could grow in their coaching skills.

Gary put me in touch with Church Multiplication Ministries, led by Tom Wood and Jim Moon, Jr. Recently they’ve started holding coaching training in Cuba. Jim is learning Spanish, and leads the training in the Spanish-speaking countries. The Lord is also opening doors for them now in Mexico and other countries.

My hope is that this training event was just the first step in a number of other training opportunities, so that we will see a multiplication of coaches on the border and throughout Mexico.

Connecting Across Mexico
Working in groups to practice coaching

Working in groups to practice coaching

We partnered with our Monterrey, Mexico team to pull off this coaching training. After our two-day training event in Tijuana, the same training was offered in Monterrey.

One of the other things that brought me joy is that we were able to offer this training for two of our missionaries that are working in Guadalajara and two that are working in Juarez. I have been working with our leadership so that we can begin to work in a more unified fashion when we provide training.

Those that came to the training were very positive about the experience, and expressed a desire to learn more. I would like to see a culture of learning here, and I believe that is what we are beginning to observe.

The work is not done, but we are definitely off to a good start!

Lift Up Your Voices to the Lord

Continue to pray with us that the Lord will multiply coaches on the border and throughout Mexico, so that pastors and leaders have someone they can look to as they minister.

Ministry is not easy. We recognize that we are in a battle, but it’s even harder if not impossible when we go it alone. Pray that our band of brothers and sisters will grow.

We Urgently Need Your Prayers!
Our training team preparing for the Gospel coach training

Our training team preparing for the Gospel coach training

Today we are starting our coaching training for 25 – 30 pastors and leaders in Rosarito, Mexico. We need your prayers as we begin this training. This is an important event as we seek to see the gospel take deeper root here on the border and the Baja.

Pray that our training team which consists of Gary Watanabe, Jim Moon, Jr. and me (Dave Dias0) works well together. This is the first time that I am helping to lead this training, so I could use extra prayer.

Pray for energy for me and those that I’m training with.

Pray that the Lord will prepare all those that are coming, and that He will use it in a profound way in their lives.

Pray for my family as I’m staying in Mexico until Wednesday. Pray especially that Dawn, Hannah, David and Jon do well, and that the Lord keeps them from harm.

Pray for our vehicles, and for all the computers and projectors that we will be using during the training time.

Continue to pray that our car will get fixed this week, and that we can drive it again soon.

Thanks for Standing With Us!

Thank you so much for joining us in prayer. Dawn and I firmly believe that the Lord hears the prayers of his people, and it’s one of the principles means of protection in this war that we are engaged in.

Preparing Leaders to Coach
Dave & Pastor Victor Bravo in front of the church

Dave & Pastor Victor Bravo in front of the church

On Friday two good friends of mine, Gary Watanabe and Jim DeWitt with Mission to the World (MTW) arrived in preparation for our coaching training for pastors and leaders. The training will be held on Monday and Tuesday, and we expect about 30 to attend.

Gary flew in all the way from Tokyo, Japan. He’s been coaching me, giving me suggestions about how to multiply coaches for leaders. We first began this discussion about two years ago.

I remember telling Gary about the growing number of church planters we were working with on the border with Lo Mejor del Trigo and National Presbyterian Church of Mexico. As Gary listened he said you can’t coach all those guys by yourself, you need a way to multiply coaches as the churches multiply. That’s where the dream began.

Celebrating the Advance!

It’s thrilling after two years of work and preparation that we are holding this training. In some ways we still just at the beginning, but it’s a good beginning. We still have much to learn, but the Lord is guiding and leading us. God has given us some great people to work with.

This is the second of two huge accomplishments for this year. The first was holding our first assessment center for church planting candidates in Tijuana.

Pray With Us!
Dave & Dawn

Dave & Dawn

We continue to pray and ask the Lord to build a strong and healthy church. To build a network of churches.

Join us in prayer as we prepare for the coaching training, and for the actual training that will take place on Monday, December 7 and Tuesday, December 8. We often get attacks when we hold events like this. Pray for the Lord’s protection for our family, for this working with us and for our cars and things important and necessary to do the training.

Thanks so much for standing with us in prayer!
