God’s Incredible Blessings!
Phases of Church building

Phases of Church building in Tijuana – Lo Mejor del Trigo Pipila

It’s hard to believe that three years ago this month we said a tearful goodbye to friends and family in Colorado and headed for the border. It’s been quite a journey. Many highlights with some dips in the road on the way.

God has blessed in many ways, and in some ways more than we thought possible.

We’ve partnered with a church planting movement on the border to help plant two churches in Tijuana and two in Rosarito. Lo Mejor del Trigo has planted 25 churches in 9 years.

We are thrilled to have such a close relationship with them and to coach, train and encourage many of the pastors in this multiplying movement!

This May we’ve partnered with the National Presbyterian Church of Mexico (NPCM) to launch a new church planting project in La Paz, Baja California. Pastor Victor Gonzalez is leading this work and MTW team members Peter and Jenny Boling are supporting this new project.

In November of this year we will be holding our first church planting assessment center in partnership with the NPCM.

We are looking for solid church planting candidates to help launch more new churches in Ensenada, Mexicali, Tijuana and beyond.

Connections on Both Sides of the Border

The Lord has also blessed us with a strong and growing partnership with Bridge Church, which is a bi-lingual multicultural church in San Diego. We are grateful for the vision of this church to reach San Diego and Tijuana with gospel-centered churches.

God continues to surprise us with new opportunities. He continues to open doors.

Dawn and I feel honored that Jesus has shown up, and connected us with such wonderful servants of the Lord. People who truly love God and want to see his kingdom expanded.

There are more churches and pastors that Jesus has connected us with than I have space to mention here. Thank you Lord for your answer to many prayers!

We Pray For & Look to the Future

As we look forward to the future we can’t wait to see what God will do over the next three years. We pray that the church will continue to grow in number and in influence on the border and the Baja. That many more lives will be changed.

One big request Dawn and I have is that the Lord would bring us more workers. Like-minded people who love Jesus and have a heart to serve. As the ministry expands we need people to help us. Jesus told his disciples to pray for workers, because the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few (Matthew 9:37, 38).

Thank you so much for praying with us and joining us on this journey. To God be the Glory!

LMT #24 is coming!

Pastor Daniel Nuñez and Victor Bravo with Dave

Pastor Daniel Nuñez the leader of Lo Mejor del Trigo and Victor Bravo (in the middle), one of our newest church planters with Dave.

This month is a big one. Some thrilling things are going to take place.

On March 14th and 21st a group from the former Harbor network of churches (Redeemer SD, Bridge, Grace Renewal, Harbor City Church, Harbor UTC, and Harbor Miramesa) is going to go to Rosarito, just south of Tijuana to build a church. This project will help Lo Mejor del Trigo (LMT) start a new church. It will be church number 24. Pastor Victor Bravo will lead this church along with his wife, Sol.

Dawn and I are excited to be a part of this project. We give thanks to the Lord and to our friends from Lo Mejor del Trigo and the collection of former Harbor Churches. We feel so blessed to serve the Lord here on the border and to work with Pastor Daniel Nuñez who leads LMT.

Victor and his wife, Sol have a strong call and they are wonderfully gifted. We look forward to what God is going to do through them in this new church. We love being a part of kingdom expansion with them.

Lift Up Your Hands In Prayer!

Join us in prayer as we finish bringing the team together that will build this church. There are a number of logistical details that still have to come together. I feel like the Lord has given us an added measure of grace, but if you’ve been following our story you are aware that we are in the midst of a huge trial.

We continue to pray and to look to the Lord for our daughter, Hannah. God is bringing healing, but this trial has gone on for a while now, so at times we do grow weary.

In Need of God’s Healing Touch

Continue to lift us up in prayer. Continue to pray for Hannah’s complete healing! Every time I get a little down, and I send out a plea for prayer God responds. My family and I see and feel the difference. Do not grow weary in doing good. I realize as this trial wears on, that even those who are lifting us up get tired. You are making a difference.

We thank the Lord for you! As we have some busy and important weeks coming up we need extra prayer covering.

Faithful Friends

One of the things that gives me buoyancy as our family endures this trial is all of the faithful friends that God has given us. We are truly blessed by so many people who love us and have showered us with words of affirmation as well as prayer.

Pastor Daniel Nuñez is one of those friends. Pastor Nuñez leads the ministry of Lo Mejor del Trigo (LMT) in Tijuana. We are getting ready to help Daniel and LMT plant their 24th church.

A Common Vision

The vision to see a transformed city through a church planting movement is what brought Daniel and me together. Through our partnership we have become great friends. Our families have grown to love one another over the past four plus years.

Pastor Daniel and his family along with most of the pastors and churches with Lo Mejor del Trigo have been praying for us and for our daughter, Hannah. They send us notes via Facebook and texts letting us know they are concerned about us and they are praying for us.

One of the pastors, Abraham Velazquez devoted an evening of prayer at their church in Rojo Gomez for Hannah and our family. Many of the other pastors have told us that their church is praying for us. We feel very loved!

Recently, Pastor Nuñez came to our main partner church, Bridge to share all that God is doing in Tijuana and to get everyone excited about participating in the construction of the new church plant in March. The people at Bridge applauded Daniel’s testimony after he shared how God is working in Tijuana.

Then he had the opportunity to preach on how God works through the church to bring about growth. There are many examples of this in Acts. We pray the church will expand in marvelous ways on both sides of the border. Dawn and I give thanks for such wonderful friends, such wonderful partners in ministry.

Your Prayers Lift Us Up!

Thank you for all your prayers and uplifting words for our family. They do help! I can’t say we don’t get down, but the loving support keeps us going. It lifts us up! We see Hannah getting better even if it’s slower than we’d like.

This weekend we noticed a dove nesting at the entrance to our home. We’ve been praying that our home will be a haven of peace. The dove is a sign of peace and of the Holy Spirit. The Lord has used it as a still small voice reminding us that he hears our prayers and that he doesn’t abandon us. Thank you so much dear Lord!

Christmas in City Heights

Saturday evening Bridge church, formerly Harbor Mid-City held a wonderful outreach event – Christmas in City Heights (CICH).

It’s an event that provides affordable gifts for families in the community of City Heights that are struggling to make it. Through donations and many volunteers the church is able to bless many families, so that they can give gifts to their children at Christmas.

Christmas in City Heights is a joyous celebration of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

I love seeing the smiles, and watching people enjoy the season with their families.

The Greatest Gift

One of the things I enjoy most is the opportunity to share about the greatest gift ever given to man. The gift of Christ. Christ is indeed the reason for the season.

People seem to be more open to the message of Christmas, because they realize that during this time of year we celebrate the coming of Christ. The Lord gave me the opportunity to share with a husband and his wife and two sisters. They said they were not sure if they would go to heaven if they were to die today.

This opened the door for me to explain how they could know for sure. I shared the story of Christmas that Christ came to seek and save the lost. That they could receive the gift of grace, the gift of salvation that Christ came to give us.

All four of them said they wanted the gift of Christ. They wanted to have a personal relationship with God. So I had the privilege of leading them in prayer to repent of their sins and to put their faith in Christ. To trust Christ in order to receive the gift of heaven.

It warms my heart to watch people respond to the gospel message. Now they are part of God’s family. The church will help them grow in this grace.

Thanks be to God for his wonderful work and for his saving grace.

Should We Get Excited About the Church?
Dave & Peter (the small guys in the back) with Benjamin & Blanca Romero and Victor & Fanny and Karis Gonzalez in Los Cabos

Dave & Peter (the small guys in the back) with Benjamin & Blanca Romero and Victor & Fanny and Karis Gonzalez in Los Cabos exploring a new church planting project for La Paz

We talk a lot about planting churches. You could say we get excited about seeing new churches start-up. And maybe you wonder why? To some the church seems like a mess. I mean how could God use it? Just read the newspaper and you will find some bad news about a church somewhere.

Those are good questions.

And yet despite its shortcomings, God in his infinite wisdom chose the church as his vehicle for his kingdom to grow on the earth. Jesus taught us to pray, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. We pray for the expansion of the Lord’s kingdom as he works through his church.

Life Transformation is Why!

One of the main reasons why we do what we do is because of the transformed lives. It’s gets us stoked to see and hear the stories of a life changed by the gospel. When Jesus enters in and turns someone’s world upside down.

This last Sunday at the multi-cultural, bilingual church, Bridge Church (formerly Harbor Mid-City) that we partner with Dawn and I were able to share in the story of wonderful story of a man with many last names who God claimed as his own.

Robert’s Story – Covenant Renewal

Many people were moved to tears as they listened to Robert’s testimony. Watch the video here, and see if you don’t agree that God has done an amazing work in Robert’s life.

Dawn and I feel privileged to get a front row seat to what God is doing in the lives of people through the work of his church. As feeble as the church may be Jesus reigns supreme and he is the giver of life. He gives us hope and through the gospel we see life transformation.

Some Exciting New Works

I just returned from Los Cabos and La Paz Mexico where we are working on a new church planting project. We are working and praying for the right church planter to lead this project.

We are also talking to Pastor Daniel Nuñez about partnering with Lo Mejor del Trigo to start a new church planting project near Rosarito in Mexico. God is on the move here and he that keeps us busy.

Please join us in prayer that we will see the Lord open the necessary doors and bring everything together so that these churches will be healthy from the beginning.
