God’s Work through Pastor Victor and Sol

We just celebrated the three year anniversary of Pastor Victor Bravo and his wife, Sol’s church this past Sunday. It was an amazing day! I wrote about it in my last post: Much to Celebrate in Mexico!

The Lord is changing people’s lives through the ministry of Victor and Sol and their church. One of the outreaches that they have is to children, who have been abandoned or whose parents, because of poor life choices aren’t able to take care of their children.

In this video Sol shares about this ministry to the children, and the part she plays in showing the love of Christ to these families in need. At the end of the video, she highlights how the Lord got a hold of Raul and transformed his life and brought him back with his two boys. I wrote about Raul’s testimony in an earlier post: Tears of Grace.

The Ministry Continues in the Community of Plan Libertador!

I spoke with Sol today, and she told me that the ministry to the children and their families is starting to grow and take place in their church. This past November we were able to help Victor and Sol build a room for children’s ministry right next to their church building. Victor and Sol have the vision and hope to see lives transformed as they offer the love of Christ in practical ways to the people in the community of Plan Libertador, where the church is located. The people that live in Plan Libertador have many physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

Continue to pray for Victor and Sol as they minister the good news of the gospel in a community with astounding needs. Christ is able to change lives and to meet all their needs. Hallelujah!

Encouraged by Stories of God’s Grace
Pastor Victor and Sol

Pastor Victor and Sol

Every time I’m with Pastor Victor and Sol I come away encouraged by all the God Stories. The Lord is definitely on the move in Plan Libertador. It’s amazing to think that this church just started a little over a year ago.

Victor and Sol told me about Viviana Hernandez and her son, Miguel who recently came to Christ and were just baptized in the church. Miguel is the drum player at the church for the worship team.

They came to the church through a friend that attends the church Viviana says, she was attracted to the church by the love shown and the message. She heard the wonderful message of the gospel of grace and she decided to place her faith in Him.

Then Viviana invited her friend Carmen. They know each other from nursing school. Carmen’s husband is a bodyguard. They have a growing interest in the gospel.

Lupita: The Light of Christ is Shining

Another person who recently came to Christ is Lupita Rodriguez. She’s 22 years old and she was also baptized into the church. She invited her mom to church. Lupita’s mom has a number of health problems, so they’ve been ministering to her and praying for her. Lupita is grateful and her mom is encouraged by all the love they’ve received.

Lupita has a contagious faith and she started sharing the gospel with her cousin, Cristal and she has started attending the church. God is moving through his people. Babes in Christ.

Loving & Caring for Orphans

The church is ministering in an orphanage in the community – it’s called Nueva GeneraciĂłn – New Generation. Sol, who is a trained psychologist is meeting with the children and their parents. They have 17 children and the directors are coming to the church on Sundays.

The ministry is growing as they lovingly share the message of Jesus. Victor and Sol are two of my heroes, and I think if you knew them they would also be your heroes. To God be the Glory!

A Glorious Sunday of Worship

Today (Sunday) was an invigorating day! It’s so good to see God’s church in action. The church growing, and reaching out to the glory of God!

In the morning I was able to visit and preach at Lo Mejor del Trigo (LMT) Plan Libertador in Rosarito. Victor Bravo pastors this young church, which we helped him and his wife, Sol launch this past March.

Victor and Sol are some of my favorite people. They have so much energy and enthusiasm and it’s plan to see that they love their people and the people love them.

I preached on Christ’s tender invitation to come learn from him, and rest in him from Matthew 11:25-30. I’ve been camped out on that passage for a while now. It was hot in the church today, so I feared the congregation might take my exhortation to rest literally. Fortunately, they stayed awake and I sensed the Lord used His Word to lift up the spirit of the people.

Even though this church is only a few months old they already have about 40 people in their service. Victor and Sol are doing an outstanding job in showing the love of Christ in the community of Plan Libertador. I wish all our church plants would start off like this one is.

That’s our continued prayer. Lord, build your church.

In the afternoon I was able to go to LMT La Morita in Tijuana to celebrate their seventh anniversary. My good friend, pastor Jaime Rodriguez is leading this church. He planted the church with his wife, Valentina in 2008.

Jaime also ministers as the Hispanic pastor of Bridge church in San Diego. I really enjoy working with him. As I’ve said before it’s a real privilege for me to minister with the men and women like Jaime & Valentina and Victor and Sol.

So encouraging to visit these two churches, and see how God’s Spirit is working in each church.

God’s Amazing Work – What a Joy!

When I pray and think about the future and what God wants to do on the border and throughout the Baja I keep being reminded of Ephesians 3:20.

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. (Ephesians 3:20, 21 ESV)

I love  the idea of Christ doing far more abundantly than all that we ask or think. It doesn’t only say abundantly, but the passage says far more abundantly. God can and will do more than we can even ask or think of. I don’t know about you, but that gives me hope.

Sometimes I get frustrated when I try to do the ministry in my own strength, or even when I lean on my own understanding too much.

So many wonderful promises in the Bible to keep me going in the right direction, and to remind me who’s in charge.

“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭127:1‬ ‭ESV‬‬
Thanks for praying and standing with us as we minister here, and see God fulfilling his promise to build his church.

One of the favorite things I enjoy about the work the Lord has called us to is connecting with and encouraging the church planters. A big part of our ministry is loving on, pastoring, coaching the pastors and their wives. It’s an incredible privilege!

Dawn and I grow to love these amazing servants of the Lord!

Last week I was able to meet with a number of the church planters and leaders from Lo Mejor del Trigo.

The stories they tell about how God is working through them energizes me!

God’s Grace on Pastor Victor Bravo & Sol

Victor Bravo and his wife, Sol just started their church in April of this year. Their church is just four months old.

Last week they did their first VBS, and 30 children attended. This is outstanding for the size of their church.

Pastor Victor said that most of the people in the church are new, and they are still very young in their faith. They are very open with Victor and Sol. As Victor and Sol are sharing with them and loving on them most of the couple’s have shared with them that they are not married. They are living together, but they have not entered into the covenant of marriage.

This gives Victor and Sol a tremendous opportunity to disciple them and teach them about the the importance of making the commitment before God in marriage. The people are so open, so hungry to learn, but they are in process. God is working in their hearts. He is changing them.

God’s Provision

Recently someone broke into the church and stole the sound equipment. Victor was discouraged, but the Lord lifted up his spirit and he was able to tell the people that he trusted that in faith the Lord will provide. Victor said he was going to give towards the needed repairs. Then the other families began to volunteer, and most if not all of the families decided to chip in to repair the damage done to the church.

God is so good!

After my meeting with Pastor Victor and Sol I left feeling lifted up. It encouraged my spirit to see how God was and continues to work among them.

Keep praying, dear friends, for the advance of the gospel on the border. God does hear our cry. He responds to our prayers and petitions.

God’s Work Through Victor & Sol

Dawn, Hannah and I had a wonderful evening with Pastor Victor Bravo and his wife, Sol and their son, Abraham this past week. It is evident that the Lord’s hand is upon them as they are ministering in Plan Libertador, Lo Mejor del Trigo’s 24th church.

The church held its first service in March of this year. Victor and Sol have been very active in the community. They are handing out flyers to let their neighbor know about the new church. They are taking food to people in the hospital. They are organizing soccer games. They’ve even partnered with the San Diego – Baja YWAM team to build some homes for the poor.

Can New Believers Serve?
Pastor Victor and Sol

Pastor Victor and Sol

New people are coming into the church. They are encountering Christ for the first time and many of them are coming into a personal relationship with Jesus.

Victor said that many of the new couples are living in “union libre” (they are living together, but aren’t married).

Victor began to pray and ask God how to minister to so many people who were living together as if they were married, even though they weren’t.

God Comes Through – His Answer
Dave with Pastor Victor in front of the church

Dave with Pastor Victor in front of the church

God answered Victor’s plea. He reminded him that even though they didn’t have their lives all together they could still serve. They could take food to the hungry. They could help hand out flyers. They could visit the homeless.

As Victor and Sol have lovingly shared with these young believers many of them have started to ask them about getting married. They are talking about fixing the church up to make it look nicer for the weddings!

The gospel is changing families! God is bringing about life transformation! Praise be to God! Pray that this young church will continue to grow, and to share the love of Christ with those in the community of Plan Libertador and Beyond.

A Celebration – A New Birth
Pastor Daniel anointing Victor and Sol as they begin the ministry in Plan Libertador

Pastor Daniel anointing Victor and Sol as they begin the ministry in Plan Libertador

What a wonderful celebration! Sol said she felt like she did on her wedding day on the day of the inauguration of the new church in Rosarito. Pastor Victor and Sol were so excited. They were radiant!

All of us who participated in praying for them and building the church felt the energy. We were glowing with gladness and filled with gratitude for God’s goodness.

A Dream Realized
Sol & Victor

Victor and Sol said they have been praying for seven years for a moment like this. God answered. He came through!

The Lord’s Spirit was very present during the service. One of the American pastors, David Feiser, who came down from Bellflower said he felt the Spirit moving as we worshipped.

The highlight of the service was when Pastor Daniel Nuñez lead us in the laying on of hands and anointing of Victor and Sol. I felt privileged to lay hands on them and pray for them along with the other pastors from Lo Mejor del Trigo present.

Victor and Sol cried tears of joy as they embraced. It was a special moment.

I always feel like the establishing of a new church is the highlight of the year for us. Especially for those churches that we are more directly involved in building and getting started.

A New Work Begins

As I had the opportunity to share during the service, the work is just beginning. Yet it’s off to a great start. This church is called to be a light in the community. That the gospel will shine forth brightly and bring freedom to many in the community of Plan Libertador and beyond!

I gave Pastor Victor and Sol a charge from Colossians 4:2-3:

“Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison—”

I encouraged all those there to continue in prayer for Victor and Sol and this new church. I’d like to ask you to do the same. Lift them up in prayer. Plead to the Lord on their behalf, asking the door for the word may be open so that they can declare the mystery of Christ.

In my charge I encouraged Victor and Sol to faithfully proclaim the gospel and to be a light in the community. O Lord, that many will come to faith as a result of the witness of this church. Hallelujah!

God is so good. Praise him for his goodness!

God came through again!
Our group working hard to build the church!

Our group working hard to build the church!

We are so thankful that God came through again. He answered your prayers, and he gave us an outstanding day on Saturday.

The church is built! We accomplished the goal!

The Lord gave us a great group of over 50 people to build the church. Everyone worked hard, and cooperated really well. It was one of the smoothest days we’ve had on a church build.

The Charge to Pastor Victor

At the end of the day one of the pastors that was accompanying us on the trip, Bob Klein from Harbor Mira Mesa gave a charge to pastor Victor Bravo. As Bob gave the keys for the church to Victor he prayed that the community would be open to the gospel as the Word goes forth.

Pastor Victor couldn’t hold back the tears as Pastor Bob shared these encouraging words. It was such a rich blessing to be part of that moment. I pray that it will be the first of many God moments that emanate from this church.

I’m so thankful for the work God is doing on the Border!

In the middle of the afternoon when we were getting close to being done with the construction, a number of us went out into the neighborhood to invite the people to the church’s inaugural service which will be held this coming Sunday. The people in the community responded openly to the invitation. We are looking forward to an amazing celebration!

Pray with us for many to come, and that through this church many lives will be touched. We pray that many will come into the kingdom of God through the testimony of this church.

Thanks again for standing with us – The Lord truly heard and richly blessed our day!
